Wanna Rock

Mason has a new love...rocking! For the past few months he has started wanting to rock at night before bedtime. Anna was never a rocker as a baby. She just wanted put in her bed and she would go to sleep. Mason had never appeared to be a rocker until recently. It started with a few nights of crying & crying when put to bed back when he was having lots of tonsil troubles. I would finally go get him and rock until he was asleep or almost asleep. When I'd put him in bed after rocking everything was fine. I guess along the way it has became a habit. During the last week he has started verbalizing his desire to be rocked. If we start preparing for bed (taking vitamins, medicines, etc) he will say "Wock, WOck, WOCK!" (translated- Rock, Rock, Rock).

I have to say I enjoy our nightly rocking sessions too. It's fun to have him snuggle up and give me a big smile from time to time. I remember when Anna was born that Kevin & I said we never wanted to start the habit of our children needing to be rocked to sleep. I don't regret that Anna didn't need to be rocked to sleep but it is a special time together. Fortunately she's not past the point of wanting to rock. We don't rock every night so that it doesn't become a necessity for sleep. However, I have a feeling that I'll be doing some part-time rocking for as long as someone wants to "Wock".
